True Freedom

India is celebrating 65th Independence Day marking the freedom we earned from British rule. The longing for freedom is there in the blood of every human being and freedom never comes without a cost, it is always achieved by protracted struggle and at enormous cost of many precious human lives. But do we have true freedom. If we take a look around the world, the struggle for freedom goes on. People still long and fight for freedom of one type or other, it may be for equality of gender, against religious or racial discriminations, social inequities, for economic equalities, or against oppressive rulers.

Our Gospel Work

‘’ You travel over land and sea to win one follower. And when you have done so, you make that person twice as fit for hell as you are ‘’ (Mathew 23:15)
Jesus instructed his disciples to go and preach the good news to everyone in the world. Many churches are engaged in evangelization and some churches undertake social work as a substitute to preaching of gospel. If we introspect what we do, our actions are more symbolical and   sometimes even contradictory to the true spirit of teachings of gospel.

Congratulations

Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish extends its hearty congratulation to our new bishops Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Makarious (Rev.Dr.Varghese Mathai ),  Rt. Rev. Gregorious Mar Sthephanos   (Rev. K.V.Varkey ) and Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Titos Episcopa (Rev.Dr.Oommen George). Let the Almighty God give them strength to lead the Church in the right direction.

Dear Sajan,

Before I proceed, allow me to appreciate you for the active participation in the discussion of Kuwait church dissolution and also other Mar Thoma church issues. The sermons in the form of letters should be an eye opener for many as the only reason for sparing so much time and initiative has to be necessarily your love for our Lord and Saviour Jesus.
I have been reserving my views on the Kuwait Church for more than one reason. However, I go through every mail concerning the same that is posted in this site and my heart goes out to those who feel so strongly about the church they were attending to till recently and I do understand their heartbroken approach. May the good Lord Himself find a solution that will bring joy and peace for which God descended to the earth and became man, I earnestly pray.

MY Lord, MY God & OUR Father in Heaven

My Lord, My God, the words of Apostle Thomas, often become topic of sermon to emphasis personal relationship with Christ. But my question is, Could someone can call ‘MY’ Lord when he does not qualify himself to say the 1st word ‘OUR’ Father in the prayer which Jesus himself taught his disciples.

This thought of our father came to me, by some incidents I encountered in recent past. Sometimes back when I was on vacation to my native place, I happened to participate in a prayer meeting in which a lady was heard praying to frustrate the prayers of another prayer cell! This lady and her husband were doing wonderful job of saving souls, many Hindus in neighborhood are being saved in Jesus by their selfless work, much beyond what a local church could do. But she was thinking that the other prayer group was praying and working against them. I felt very strange at this prayer and immediately the thought came to me was the prayer Jesus taught his disciples which start with the word ‘OUR’.

After the meeting I asked how could we even think that they will pray against us when both, they and we, are praying to same God and we say OUR father and is it not silly and a sin to even think of such opposite prayers. Ever since this thought came to me, this word ‘Our’ has been an effective medicine, a strong force compelling me to reconcile with others when I developed conflicts with them and in erasing the feeling of hatred in heart.

The writings on the sides of the Flying Scroll and Seven lamps , the eyes of Lord

Zechariah Chap 5 describe the vision  which zechariah had, in which he sees a flying scroll. God’s angel then  explains to him the meaning of  the scroll that it  puts a curse on every one who steals and tell lies. This scroll has writings on both side , the writing on one sides tells about the destruction of those who steal  and the writing on the other side tells the destruction that befall on those who lie.  The Lord All –Powerful  has said ‘’ I am sending this scroll into the house of everyone who is a robber  or tells lies in my name, and it will remain there until every piece of wood and  stone  in that house crumbles.’’
