Fate of Evergreen Fig Tree

Bible records an incident in which Jesus curses a Fig tree and it withers from the roots. Mark11: 12,13 14,15, 20  says 12 … Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. 20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.

Root cause of Dissolution –Restoration & Challenges ahead.

The Epoch making declaration of His Grace Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan in Marina Hall on 4th May 2012 in the presence of more than 2000 ardent Marthoma believers that, the parish has been reinstated in Kuwait with its seniority and the name KUWAIT CITY MARTHOMA PARISH is the rarest in the history of Malankara Syrian Marthoma Church. Ever since its entity of over 175 years of history as a reformed church, the dissolution of an active parish and its reestablishment has never happened. Our Honorable Metropolitan and Episcopal Synod have taken this bold step in the paternal love of our Lord Jesus Christ by recognizing the integrity of their flock of sheep.

Lent – A Custom or Commitment?

Thomas Jacob

We are in the midst of another Lent season. Like every year we are actively participating in the customary rituals. This is the time for self evaluation of our faith in Christ. How far we are true to the real meaning of Lent? Let us think together.
Unconditional love of God is demonstrated in the Cross of Calvary. This is a concept that means showing love towards someone regardless of his or her actions or belief. God’s love is not restricted to any particular people but is open to all. Jesus is teaching us to love not only our friends but also our foes. It is the sign of forgiveness and willingness to sacrifice. The sinless Creator sacrificed himself for the sin of the creation. This is the redemption of humanity.

God earmarked this year’s Purim for Kuwait Marthomites

Big thanks to all those who stood for truth and right. Once again we are assured that the   God of truth and justice reigns. Just as rays of sun can’t be covered with a sieve, nothing can overshadow the truth. Let us all draw lesson from this.
It is a time of joy for His people, their cries are heard, their sorrows turned into joy and their mourning into a day of celebration (Esther 9:22). Nothing happens without His knowledge, and He sets a perfect time for everything. The day of Purim marks the victory of Israelites and this is now revisiting in the lives of Kuwait Marthomites in same manner. This is not incidentalthis  year’s Purim fall on  8th of March and will continue for 2 days until Friday, the 9th of MarchGod earmarked this year’s Purim for Kuwait Marthomites.  Exactly on same day of March 9, Friday , Kuwait Marthomites are joining together to give thanks to their Lord and celebrate this . Sometimes back I wrote the day of Purim for Kuwait Marthomites will surely come and it has finally dawned on to them
Give all Praise to the Lord, He cares, He listens and He reigns
God Bless

What pleases Lord, Flattery or Correction?

What is Flattery or sycophancy? It is  sweet talk or  lavishing of unmerited praises and those who practice it have an obstinate and obnoxious obsession to project, falsely adore and admire a leader. They  pretend to be well wishers of the leader but in reality are responsible for the failure.
A leader who loves flattery are  mostly despots with a penchant for authoritarian streaks, who does not believe in orderly administration of justice. He  keeps personal ambitions and egos above anything else  and the interests of the community  is  hardly a matter of concern. What follows will be that the relationship between the leader and the community at large, especially at the grass root level, is completely  cut off to be replaced by a narrowed down relation  between the leader and  the  coterie of a handful of sycophants around.  Such a leader will never know or care to know  the truths and real facts but will depend on lies and fabled stories, wisdom and discernment  could hardly be seen in their  words and decisions. Result,   love and reverence is replaced by hate and contempt , willful obedience  is replaced by vengeance use of authority and coercions and threat of punishments.  History proves, time again, that  such leaders are doomed to fail and meet their disgraceful end.
What does Bible says on this ? Is it Christian to practice sycophancy, promote it or partake it  or be silent when we see evils ?

Who is deaf ?

A man told his doctor that he thought his wife was going deaf and the doctor advised him a simple test. When the man reached the front door of his home, he called out ‘’ Darling, is dinner ready?’’ Hearing no response, he repeated the question more loudly. Still he could hear no response and when he reached just behind his wife , he repeated it again and this time he could hear “ Yes darling , now for the 3rd time, I am telling you, dinner is ready’’  This man think , it is not he but his poor wife who is deaf !

Some Christmas thoughts- Is our celebration an insult to Jesus?

Some Christmas thoughts- Is our celebration an insult to Jesus?
Is it right to celebrate Christmas ?  This question is relevant coz we see a large and a steadily growing segment of Christians who indisputably  believe in Christ is thinking and preaching  these days that  celebrating Christmas is something an ungodly or sinful act.

Who is greater?

The term greater  or lesser is a relative and subjective term, what may seem great to one may be unimportant  or even disgusting to others, something considered a sin in one place may be just a  routine way of life or tradition in some other place and so on.  But Bible gives us  some  clear  insight as to what is great or least in the eye of God. About John, the Baptist, Jesus said ‘ No one ever born on this earth is greater than John. But whoever is least important in God’s kingdom is greater than John.’’

Leaders who love Scepter of Authority but don’t want towel for washing the feet.

In Luke chap 22:26 Jesus teaches his disciples  how humble they should be as leaders  ‘’.., the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves’’ To demonstrates this to his disciples Bible says  “ Jesus got up .. wrapped a towel around his waist … then he began  washing his disciples’ feet  Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, ..I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.’’

Mar Thoma Church in Kuwait

Praise the lord. He is our God making wonders, happening impossible to possible.

This is with reference to the latest upload in ‘Markosevoice’ which is a surprise to happen in Kuwait and those who are aware to the reality in this country, it is something near to impossible that this government shall accept Christian communities and to fund each of them with about KD250K (approx. 4.7crores rupees) and planning to allot space for building their own churches. This was a prime subject in Kuwait Marthoma Parish prayers for last few years and our Heavenly Father has listen to our prayer and made the situation to force the authorities to take this decision, Halleluiah. If available information is correct 4 Churches in Kuwait has received the above funds into their bank accounts, those who were selected based on the number of members / period of existence in Kuwait.

Kuwait Mar Thoma Church Experiment – a case study of Babel Tower.

Old testament Genesis 11:4to7 ‘’They said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”  5But .. 6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

Radiant Sources of light or Cold reflectors of the Past

Christian faith is a destiny to spread the warmth of the love we experienced from the Lord, by ourselves being converted to a particle of the same character as Christ the Head.

Here we can consider our status in this aspect, by a metaphorical comparison with the sun and the moon.

Could we Thank God for Prayers Delayed and Denied ?

Jesus said,  ask, you will get, search , you will find and knock, door will be opened.    Would any of you give your hungry child a stone, if he ask for bread? Would u give your child a snake,  if the child asked for a fish? ( In Mathew Chap 7) These words were spoken by Jesus to assure us that the heavenly father is always keen to answer  our prayers with all the good things of heaven. This is the direct message of the above words.

But when I read this passage in Bible, the message that came to my  mind was an  answer as to why some of our prayers are not heard.   Bible says there are many reasons why our prayers are not heard, for example, our own inequities, our sinful nature ,  selfish greed,  our unwillingness to forgive, revenge in our hearts and not the  least important, our  lack of faith.

Are we really The Lighted to Lighten?

Though I had seen  the words ’Lighted to Lighten’’  many times in the past  from childhood, never I tried to understand what it really mean. But some recent events related to  church stirred my mind to think over these words.
What is Light? In the perspective of Bible,  Light is Jesus and  Word of God. John chap. 1 says ‘’ In the beginning was the Word, … and the Word was God, …. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.David says in pslm27 The Lord is my light ..? psalm119 says’’ Your word is a lamp for my feet,    a light on my path’’ and   word of god ‘’make me wiser than my enemies, gives me more  insight than all my teachers,  more understanding than the elders’’ and for Solomon it is ‘’the apple of eye’’ How befitting to name Jesus  as Light is more clear when we read Isaiah 60:19&20 which same as we see  in Revelations 21:23 ‘’The city (New Jerusalem) does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp’’ and 22:5 ‘’ There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light...’’ Now let us see what the Marthoma Church motto represent.

Sin of Commission and Sin of Omission

Those who have an accounting background must have learnt that the errors in accounting are classified broadly as errors of commission and errors of omission. Similarly, sins could also be categorized as sins of Commission which is doing something wrong and sins of Omission which is   not doing something ought to have been done.

Now let us see how Bible perceives the sins of Omission.  Luke 16;19 to 31 Jesus gives the story of a rich man and Lazarus. I see in this rich man many good qualities.  He allowed a poor man with sores to remain at his gate and allowed him to   eat the scraps fallen from his table, and even when he knows there is no escape from his terrible   sufferings in the hell, he is very keen  to save his brothers and to send them to heaven. Incredibly noble qualities hardly seen in even faithful people these days! And he did no harm to the poor man.

Waiting for What Next

Very few have the taste of the shadowy things that is happening in the corridors of church power center but we ordinary marthomites like me and may be 99% of marthomites had no clue , at least on its gravity and depth, till the end of 2010. But now  we are befuddled at discovering our achens, bishops and marthoma church more and more every day.
