The Word Purim has its origin to the word Pur which means lot . Purim is the days of celebration of Jews in commemoration of the great victory they had from their arch enemy, Haman and his group. The history of this could be traced to the books of Esther in Bible. King Xerxes of Persia reigned in the citadel of Susa and Haman held a very high position of honor in the whole of kingdom, he was 2nd only to the King. Mordecai was a Jew and was an official in the palace.
This Haman was a hardcore enemy of Jews . He deeply hated Mordecai and conspired to get a decree from King to destroy all the Jews, including Mordecai, on a single day. To select this day of annihilation of Jews, he decided to cast a lot, pur. Accordingly the date was fixed on 13th of the month of Adar, the 12th month. But God of Jews had a saving plan for the Jews to frustrate their enemies. When Mordecai learned of the decree to annihilate Jews , he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city, wailing loudly and bitterly. Then the whole scenario changes upside down.
God worked in the heart of King using the new queen, Esther, a Jewish girl and her relative, Mordecai. Haman who hatched the plan to kill Mordecai , had to face the disgrace of honoring Mordecai with his own hands in full public glare and had to go back home that day in shame. When he was at the peak of his arrogant joy, enjoying the royal feast with King and Queen , what awaited him was his own death warrant. What followed next was a counter decree from the same King which gave authority to Jews to organize and defend themselves and destroy their enemies. This they executed in letter and spirit. The day of 13th of Adar month which Haman fixed for elimination of Jews, became the day of his own execution , he was hanged on the same pole of fifty cubits high which he set up to impale Mordecai. All his10 sons were also publicly hanged to death. In Susa , Jews killed their enemies on 13th and 14th and on 15th they rested and celebrated. In all other provinces, Jews killed their enemies on 13th and rested and celebrated on 14th. Haman who schemed to annihilate the Jews met his own ignominious end as the word of God says “ man has many plans but God’s purpose will be done’’ Since then the 14th and 15th days of Adar(12th Month of the year) is celebrated as Purim, in memory of the days when Jews won victory over their enemies , their sorrows and weeping were turned into joy and celebration, exactly as we see in psalms 30 verse 11 ‘’ You have turned my wailing into dancing ; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy’’
The late dictator , Saddam Hussein, was one of the main beneficiaries of the prosperity and generosity of Kuwait and its people and its government. But this disgraceful guy returned it by a brutal attack on Kuwait. As we all know , this guy who planned to erase a great nation from world map has now become history , his stupidity made him to run for his own life and he was pulled out from a rat hole and he met his own disgraceful end but Kuwait is restored to its glorious position as a prosperous nation.
Kuwait Marthomites were always a pride of the church , they always loved and gave the highest respect to the bishops and achens, they participated generously in all the activities of the church ,whether it was evangelization or extending a helpful hand to the needy, but the church leadership returned this in same manner as what the stupid Saddam did, the ungrateful and heartless leadership had no pinch in heart to betray the folk by erasing the parish itself, adding one more blunder to the endless list of blunders of the present church leadership which is on a record making mission of creating all time blunders. The Kuwait Marthomites and the Marthoma church as a whole who suffer from the wicked schemes of the enemies of church, your days of weeping will come to an end because the God who liberated the Jews from their enemies is still living. Your day of Purim is not far off , your mourning will soon turn into joy and all the conspirators who make sweet dreams of celebrating the death of a worshipping community will meet their disgraceful end which is already started, their evil plans are already getting back on their own head.
